To cut and install an R6 ducting, follow these steps:
1. Measure and Cut the Duct:
– Determine the required length of the duct for your installation.
– Use a steak knife to completely cut through the duct’s jacket, insulation, and core. This process is straightforward and allows for a clean cut.
– Once you’ve cut all the way around, use wire cutters to sever the wire that connects the two pieces of flex duct.
2. Prepare the End for Connection:
– Peel back the jacket and insulation to expose approximately 6 inches of the core.
– Slide at least 2 inches of the core over the fitting you are attaching to, ensuring a secure base for the connection.
3. Secure the Connection:
– Seal the core to the duct collar with at least two wraps of duct tape.
– Use a screw clamp or draw band to secure the connection tightly over the core and the taped joint. Make sure the fastening is tight to avoid air leakage.
– As an additional measure, you may choose to use either a screw clamp or draw band in combination with the duct tape for added security.
4. Finalize the Installation:
– Pull the insulation and jacket back over the core to cover the exposed area.
– Use at least two wraps of duct tape to secure the jacket in place, further ensuring an airtight seal.
